Retinal Photography

Hospitality Eyecare Center is proud to be one of the only offices in this area to provide Topcon Digital Retinal. Dr. Tamano Fletcher recommends photos of the back of the eye be taken yearly for most patients. If you have certain eye or systemic diseases, such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, or diabetes, she may recommend you have it more frequently. It is important to have this thorough look at the entire back of the eye and to then have the permanent photographic record – if there is ever a future change in your eyes, we will then have something to compare back to.

Behavioral Vision Assessment and Treatment / Vision Therapy

Behavioral Vision Assessment and Treatment / Vision Therapy – Dr. Tamano Fletcher evaluates each patient’s basic visual functionality with twelve tests. If this testing indicates a problem, Dr. Tamano Fletcher will explain the results and may recommend further testing, a Functional Vision Evaluation. The Functional Vision Evaluation is a battery of testing, taking between one and one-and-a-half hours to complete. The tests are standardized so as to give a complete picture of every area of eye function. Dr. Tamano Fletcher will develop a plan of treatment for your needs based on these results and spend time reviewing them until you understand and feel comfortable with the results and recommendations. Treatment, in many cases, may require a Vision Therapy training program, similar to Physical Therapy but for the eyes. Please call and ask to speak with Dr. Tamano Fletcher if you have any questions.

Binocularity Testing

Binocularity refers to the ability of the two eyes to move, point, focus and function together as a team. Unlike what you may have experienced in the past, Dr. Tamano Fletcher incorporates twelve tests of binocular function in every eye examination to ensure adequate function. If deficits exist, much can be done to remediate them and alleviate related symptoms – some of which you may not even be aware are related to your eyes.

Color Vision Testing

We asses every patient’s color perception using standardized testing. For most people this is completely normal. However, 10% of men have color deficiencies and a small percentage of women, as well. Certain disease processes may also change your color perception.

Pediatric Vision Care

The American Optometric Association recommends that all children have their first eye and vision examination by an eye doctor at or before the age of one.

There are three major areas that Dr. Tamano Fletcher evaluates in all pediatric patients besides simple visual clarity, all of which can be checked even without the child’s response or feedback. Dr. Tamano Fletcher plays a number of simple games with kids and the lights and pictures are usually of interest and curiosity. Most kids enjoy their first experience with the eye doctor, some have even been known to cry if they are with a sibling and it is not their turn that day.

Firstly, it is important for retinal development that any existing prescription is not largely different between the two eyes. If so, the retina may not develop normally and a condition called amblyopia can result, often leaving the child visually limited in one eye later in life. Conditions such as this are best treated at a young age. Secondly, Dr. Tamano Fletcher evaluates eye movement and binocularity skills. Again, if deficits exist in this area, they are often best remediated early on. Thirdly, Dr. Tamano Fletcher assesses the health of the eyes and surrounding tissues. Though rare, there are certain diseases and tumors occurring in young children’s eyes that can be, at worst, fatal.

To give your child every advantage possible, please schedule their first eye examination between the ages of 6 and 12 months. Be sure to make the appointment at the time of day you know your child to be at his or her best. Bring a favorite snack or toy along and, if possible, find separate care for any siblings, so you can focus your attention on the needs and experience of your child at his/her first eye examination!

Sports Vision Therapy

This is a treatment program for the eyes, similar to Physical Therapy or athletic training, which is designed to optimize and sharpen visual skills and visual-motor reaction times as they relate to your chosen sport. If you are competitive, you will want to give yourself every advantage and every training edge. Dr. Tamano Fletcher can give the advantage of visual training and give you the “sharp” edge in your competition! For you, “seeing to live” includes winning or beating your own best record. We understand!
